Gentle 3D Terrain Enthusiast,
This website accompanies my talk Towards a Web-based 3D Terrain map of the Earth at the NACIS 2023 annual meeting. Here you can preview a rudimentary prototype.
Please be patient with the initial load of the map.
Navigate the map using mouse controls or gestures. The interface is similar to the Google Maps' 3D view. Double-clicking any place on the map makes it a center for zoom and rotation — this is a good way to find an interesting view.
You can also explore a precompiled list of views below.
Double-click the compass for a north-up view and to restore navigation along the graticule.
To save a view, bookmark it — you current view is encoded in the URL.
Please note this is a work in progress. Things may break down, the site might go away unexpectedly. A better version will hopefully replace it.
I welcome any feedback you may have. Please write your comments to my X/Twitter or write me a DM.
